Richard Gutierrez and a companion were injured early Friday in a car accident that also killed another in Cavite province, authorities said.
Chief Superintendent Perfecto Palad, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, and Quezon) regional police chief, said the incident occurred at around 1:30 a.m. along the northbound lane of the Sta. Rosa-Tagaytay Road in Barangay (village) Putting-Kahoy in Silang town.
Gutierrez, who was driving his Nissan GTR sports car, was managing a curve when he lost control of the vehicle and crossed over to the opposite lane, hitting a lamp post, said Superintendent Danilo Buentipo, Silang town police chief, in a separate interview. Buentipo said the impact toppled the lamp post.
Gutierrez, his assistant Nomar Pardo, and Jorce Mascora, were rushed to a hospital in Tagaytay where Pardo died.
Meanwhile, in a phone patch interview by GMA Network's "Unang Hirit" with Gutierrez's publicist Jun Lalin, he said the actor underwent surgery.
Lalin said Gutierrez's parents, Annabelle Rama and Eddie Gutierrez, and sister Ruffa were now with the actor.
Buentipo said that at 4 a.m., Gutierrez was transferred to the Asian Hospital in Muntinlupa City.
He said that the incident was “purely an accident,” describing the area as “accident-prone” because it was poorly lit.
